There’s a new sheriff (editor-in-chief) in town.

Hello everyone!

We would first like to thank everyone for their submissions and contributions to our journal over the many years! And we would like to thank Luke Frostic, our esteemed founder and honourable Editor in Chief since 2017, for everything he has done. As the team behind BROB, we are sad to say that Luke has decided it has come time to pass on the reins. Without further ado, some words from Luke.

A farewell from the previous editor-in-chief, Luke Frostic.

Years ago, I started the Bosphorus Review of Books with my friend Thomas Parker as a place for new poets and fiction writers to publish their work, to promote Turkish literature, and engage with literature from all over the world.

I still think all of those things are important. However, I think that in the last year, the magazine hasn’t been everything it can be. The principle thing holding the magazine back and preventing it to continue to advance those goals is me. I haven’t been as committed as I should have been. I felt that if I stopped the magazine, nobody would keep it going. Thankfully that isn’t true. Selina, who has been doing excellent work on fiction and creative non-fiction, will be taking over as editor of the Bosphorus Review of Books.

She will not be doing it alone, with the support of the poetry team I believe that they can take the magazine to new places and continue to produce thoughtful, insightful, and beautiful works.

I hope to stay involved with the magazine, perhaps dropping my thoughts on a few new books in there from time to time. However, I also want to get out of the way and let the people taking the magazine forward to make choices without looking over their shoulders.

I have found editing the magazine to be extremely informative and I have learned so much about the craft of writing and editing, and been able to work with creative people from all around the world. I hope that this will continue for the new editorial team.

The Bosphorus Review will continue to matter deeply to me and I am extremely excited to see where it goes under new management.

Good luck!!!

Special thanks to Thomas, Nio, Erica, Merve, Liam, Maged, Fatima, and Selina – you all know why.

A short word from the newly appointed editor-in-chief, Selina Hisir

I have been working on The Bosphorus Review since March 2020. Soon to finish a bachelor’s degree, graduating right into a global pandemic with the world at a standstill. No one knew what they were doing, I still don’t know if anyone does even now.

Luke gave me the opportunity to be a part of bringing new narrative voices into the world, as I had wished to be doing since sometime in high school when – as do many bookworms – I decided I wanted to be a part of publishing. This has been a lovely opportunity to enter that world.

For some of you, you have worked with me before on fiction and creative nonfiction submissions, for others I am simply a name on the masthead. I would like to believe those who have worked with me enjoyed the experience and would recommend their friends, colleagues, family members, and favourite artistically-inclined baristas, to submit to the BROB.

I hope, at the very least, I can instill in you a vote of confidence as I take over the role of Editor-in-Chief.

Thank you once again to Luke for the trust he has in me to take over from him, and to our poetry editors Maged and Fatima for their support in running this journal of ours. And finally, thank you to all our authors and readers for entrusting us with their voices and listening to ours.

Well, what now?

Now, to get to the hard-hitting facts.

While we transition, we will be pausing sending out decisions on submissions until August 2023.

We will be back with our squeaky new edition in early September 2023.

We will be updating our submission guidelines in the meantime so please keep that in mind when submitting between now (June 2023) and then.

Keep an eye on our social media accounts and this page to stay updated during our transition!
