Legacy

By Samreen Sajeda

The delicate china

Decorating my living room

Is more ancient

Than my grandmother’s

First breath.

Often, I imagine

Hosting tea-parties

For my ancestors—

Kissing the cup’s firm lip

We slowly sip on memories.

To have survived decades

Without a crack,

Surely, this frail heirloom

Cannot be as fragile

As a heart.
