Foolishness
by James G. Piatt
Only sad echoes
of fading memories
linger,
engulfing the harsh
incongruity resonating in
the old poet’s life.
He writes with briny tears,
on tissue paper, and
lives in the insignificance
of his life’s absurdness as
he watches
the cold incoming
metamorphic tide
surging
into his sanity,
creating images
that reflect the
melancholy
that has become
a mirror reflecting
the foolishness
of his poetic life.
